I'm not sure which specs you're talking about. Executor 2.0 will run
fewer programs than MAE 1.0 did and Executor 2.0 is coming out about
two years later. I believe our *synthetic CPU* probably does beat
Apple's on almost all fronts. It's fairly portable but to get full
speed it does require a special back end for each architecture that it
needs to generate native code for.

I think you're mistaken here. Executor was first available for
NEXTstations -- machines that have 680x0s in them. Executor/DOS 1.0
shipped in October of 1993, and if we had had funding from Apple we
could have probably gotten everything to go for MAE and their
PowerMacs, but they couldn't have just bought our stuff at the last
minute and crammed it in since they needed stuff to do all their
development on.

    Ted> Another case of NIH?

Probably to some extent. Probably also a case of "been there, done
that, got the scars to prove it". Apple has paid some pretty big
bucks for recompilation technology that didn't live up to its claims
in the past. Apple will probably want to buy us after we start
getting mainstream acceptance.

Remember too that Executor is synthetic-cpu + os-and-toolbox-rewrite
and that many people don't understand the separation, so they see that
Executor can't run QuickTime (because of the nature of strictly clean
room development) and they assume that our core technology is fatally
flawed.
