It was not always this way, but it is now. The Macintosh stands out because of its software, not its hardware. I can buy a PPC604 based Mac running MacOS or PPC604 based Prep system running WinNT (actually I can buy a dual PPC604 running WinNT). Apple's hardware does not standout, other's have equivalent or superior technology. Apple's advantage is MacOS and the applications that run under MacOS.
