Win95 is by no means a technology marvel, > but correctly used provides better functionality than MacOS (the > non-vapour flavour :-) Yesterday, I had to put a 7 mb file on floppy's for transport. It was a PowerPoint presentation converted from the Macintosh. At first I thought using MSBACKUP to spread the file across multiple floppies would be a sane idea since MSBACKUP seems a widespread program. Then I noticed that PowerPoint had an option to do just this. It took something around 20 minutes for the option to complete it's job. Then, when I tested it, Win95 crashed. I reformatted the floppies, adjusted the presentation, and tried again. Win95 crashed again. What is worse is that I get a blue screen with ugly not-quite-centered chars demanding that I put in disk "NO_NAME" with serial "xxxx xxxx". If I refuse to do so, Win95 crashes. Finally I gave up and used MSBACKUP after all. It did the job in somewhere around 10 minutes, including testing. In my experience, 45 minutes spent on doing nothing at all is a hell of a lot less productive than spending 10 minutes on something that works. In my experience, DOS is more productive an OS than Win95. -* no thing *-
