Who cares? : On Byte Benchmarks, PPC beats Pentium. right. : On HINT Benchmarks, PPC beats Pentium. Joe, still claiming this? I still get confused looking at the HINT page, you're ofcourse comparing the 3.47 of the 132 MHz 9500 to the 120 Mhz Pentium? I hope you're not still doing the 604 beats the P6 thing. : On Windows NT running commercial applications, PPC beats Pentium. now you're really smoking those funny weeds again. must I remind you that the article you quoted out of Byte didn't compare any X86 NT apps to PPC NT apps, or to any P6 box? Byte compared the machines to each other and to other RISC boxes. No Pentiums were involved. The only thing that Byte used to judge speed were those lovely Bytemarks from number 1 above. here are the two relevent graphics http://www.byte.com/art/9511/img/507036e2.htm and http://www.byte.com/art/9511/img/507036c2.htm no such "application" benchmark exist, except for IBM's report that "32 bit Excel ran slow on PPC's, probably because MS optimized for X86 binaries" : On your beloved SPEC, Pentium beats PPC. right. : Even on applications software tests using MacOS vs. Windows (which : introduces many sources of errror), PPC is always in the same ballpark as : Intel, and often better (if you're not using Microsoft apps, PPC is : _usually_ better than Pentium). : To say "there's no way in hell that a PPC can remotely compare to the : Pentium" clearly shows that you have no interest in the truth or verifying : facts. You're just trolling. He was trolling, performance for each familiy is roughly equivalent on a per transistor-MHz comparison. But ofcourse that means that it's unlikely to achieve the 2X the performance goal by virtue of a new ISA. : -- : Regards, Joe Ragosta : Copyright Joseph M. Ragosta, 1996.
