We got to the point where your average printer boosts more RAM and certainly more processor power than your ][e ever had, which allows you to print your letter to aunt Sally with 17 different fonts (and there are 4656 more fonts on your CD) in 15 different sizes, and to include a picture of yourself in the place of every single i-dot. And if you are real lucky, it will even work. Oh, and software will automatically check your speeling and suggest "Framemaker" every time you type "Interleaf". Compare that to the times of Appleworks, when you couldn't even have your right margin come down in a straight line, had to proofread your stuff, and all you could do as far as formatting was concerned was to underline and, if you were lucky and had the right printer, print bold. Oh, and though your printing started instantly, it wasn't very fast, so when you decided to print a 20 page document in the so called "Near Letter Quality", you better hadn't anything to be done during the next hour. Yep, we have come far. From the point where it was nearly impossible to produce anything decent looking on a computer to the point where every idiot can produce something which looks horrible without any problem. Forgive me the rambling, but it's really sad when you look at what the extra power is used for :-( Bernie @@@ -- ============================================================================== Anybody out there who knows how to connect a Wyse terminal keyboard to a PC _without_ the terminal in between?
