It's because the story is not true. This is probably the 8 - 10th
time that I have heard the same story with a different company or
government office. It's always covered by some small publication that
only the poster subscribes to and it never makes it into the
mainstream press. Of course nobody who actually was supposedly
involved ever is quoted in the piece (too easy to check out the
story). Why didn't the piece quote a Motorola employee by name? Why
is the source always anonymous? Why can't anybody ever verify
anything the original poster claims?

The part I find funny is that I know of very few companies or
government offices that allow their employees to hook up AOL or
Compuserve to the company network, but all of a sudden we are supposed
to believe that a company as big as Motorola is beta testing the
Microsoft Network with hundreds possibly thousands of it's employees.
Also Microsoft has had the registration wizard in much much earlier
versions of the beta that have been in the hands of all the potential
big buyers for close to a year. Are we supposed to believe that
Motorola JUST figured out that there is a registration wizard?

Why don't they just stick to posting the "PGP Cracked" stories where
some NSA computer figured out a backdoor to PGP?
