: The advocacy OS wars are a bit silly, but these aren't the real holy wars --
: just a minor offshoot. Minor battles in the backwaters.

: I've read the marketeer's posts, and he makes some good points; however,

This is exactlywhat he meant a, " a bunch of propeller heads who don't
see the real issue". The worst OS is taking a HUGH majority of the market.
Let me say that again for clairity. The WORST OS is taking a HUGE majority
of the market. Does this need repeting yet again. How can this not be
primarily a marketting issue? The real scary part is that Win95 is not
that bad and NT is pretty good. Try them, try them you will see. Try them
try them, and you may. (my two year old loves that book) They have are
aimed at the desktop and MS has spent tree years getting the bugs out of NT
and 8 or 10 years refining Windows. You have to hand it to MS, they play
for the long run and they keep refining untill they get something good.
Even if it takes 10 years.

: a marketing issue. The real thing to be accomplished is a change in what
: is acceptable marketing -- this is a political issue (and perhaps a
: religious one).

: I haven't used NT, and never intend to. I've used earlier releases of VC
: and MFC, and do not intend to use them again. For me Microsoft is "the
: opposition," or at least the leader of the pack.

: I still use Windoze 3.1 quite a bit, but instead of migrating laterally to
: another Microsoft system I am migrating upwards to Linux and GNU. (By the
: way, I also still use RSX-11; which is very much a real OS -- unfortunately
: an old one.)
