Attempting to install the above Quantum disk (4.3G) on a Sparcstation 2 running Sunos 4.1.3. I obtained #cylinders (3850), #heads (20), #sectors (109), and rpm (7200) from Quantum spec sheet. Using format, I cannot specify the correct rpm (7200), so I leave it at the default (3600). All other parameters enter normally, and format appears to function correctly. I create one partition (c) using the entire disk (3850/0/0). When running newfs, it fails after writing a long list of alternate superblocks. Specifically, after writing backup superblock 4188320, it reports: "seek error 422344, wtfs: Error 0". I have two questions: 1) Please help (okay, more of a request than a statement). What mistake am I making, and does an incorrect rpm setting prove a barrier to using this disk? 2) Will the lack of proper rpm setting affect efficiency? I would think it would. Why can I not set the correct rpm setting? Thank you in advance for any help. --Rich
