As I pointed out in two earlier postings in c.s.hp, any attempt to get
a RAID system with 8 GB net capacity running on our HP-UX failed due
to the restriction that units greater than 4 GB are not supported.
We are aware that HP is selling their own RAID systems (and I suppose
they are working) but, at least here in Germany, HP's RAID cost more
than twice as much as those of other vendors.

HP-UX version 10.x (no date announced) is rumoured to fix this bug.

Our general impression during the procurement of RAID disks was that
we were constantly being given information by the distributors (now
I am not speaking of the large firms like HP) that were to be taken with
such a big grain of salt that I would call it deceit could I prove they
were knowing what they were telling. My advice is that you should not
buy anything that you haven't seen working in the intended configuration.
Cautious contracts may give you your money back but you can't store data
on money.

Best regards,
Helmut Richter
