I think you've hit the wall with the number of inodes or number
of blocks. One system I use frequently (HP/UX) has one 4 GB
filesystem - no problems. It's made up of a logical volume
spanning two disks.

Or can't you establish enough physical segemnts on the "single"
drive???

To overcome the max block number problem, you can try setting
up the logical volume manager and specifying a large default block
size, of say 64kb. That means that you'll be stuck with an 8kb
fragment size as the minimum. (Actually, because the fragments
are the smallest addressable filesystem unit, the number of
fragments is limited to a "long" - not even an unsigned one.)

I have no idea *why* you want a 10GB filesystem, but I'll
gladly offer you suggestions as to how to use your shovels to
dig your own grave :-)
