Hi,

we've recently got an E5500 with preinstalled Solaris 7, which had
the newest 400 MHz CPUs with 8 MB cache. 
We had to install Solaris 2.6 and had the same problem.
This CPUs are yet not included in the 5/98 issue.
You need the newest kernel patch for 2.6.
At first disable the caching on the ok-prompt.
The you can boot from cdrom and install. Then install the patch.
After rebooting 400 MHz + 8 MB works fine.
