I have a problem I hope someone else has encountered. We have two Zenith 286s, purchased sometime ago, each has a hard drive and 5 1/4 drive. Sometime in the past (before my time) a 3 1/2 drive was added to each. Unfornately, the CMOS only knows about 5 1/4" drive formats. Thus, it treats these drives as either 360K or 1.2 MG drives. Is there any way to get CMOS to understand 3 1/2" drive formats? Thanks in advance. derungjj@cda.mrs.umn.edu

In order to get it to work as a 1.4m, you will have to replace the bios chips (we had to for ~120 pc's). As a side note, the bios upgrade will also let you use more different types of hard drives and a 101 key keyboard instead of the 84 key keyboard. (note: these pc's were the government Z-248 types, with a passive backplane board instead of a mother board) Duane L. Alternately, you could use the disk driver program included in the Zenith MS-dos (tm) package.
