Ventura 3 DOS/GEM runs inside 640K, is powerful enough to produce long,
illustrated, cross-referenced, indexed documents with complete control of
all page elements, is quite easy to use, very stable and reliable, and can
run satisfactorily on a 286.

On the other hand, Corel Ventura 8 apparently needs a heavy-duty Pentium
with 64 MB to do essentially the same job, and I gather it's somewhat
unstable. Framemaker 5.5, which I use, has only marginally more
functionality than VP 3 (cross-referencing is more convenient, conditional
text is supported, that sort of thing; but drop cap, paragraph break, and
publication control, for example, are inferior) -- but would have no hope
in hell of running on a 286 with 640K.

What's wrong with this picture?
