I have just had this problem with one of my PC's, also with an American Megatrends motherboard. Mine was self induced thou; I was trying to patch the motherboard bios on a SuperMicro P55MMA motherboard to fix a boot problem with Linux and I got the wrong one... oops. I did manage to recover it to the correct version after a bit of buggering around. If just reseting the CMOS setting does not work (pay particular attention to the plug and play bios option in Advanced settings), you may have to go to the motherboard manufacturer and download a new version of the bios. Then follow the instructions to flashing the motherboard.
