I have had similar problems using PCTCP Telnet with a Kensington Expert
mouse. Sometimes I can recover by the following process:
   1) Ctrl-Alt-Del (this brings up warning screen)
   2) Esc (returns you to windows)
Often this will allow the system to recover. Sometimes I also have
to do some mouse activity like move a window before I regain full control
of the screen. Sounds crazy but it works.

Unfortunately, this is just a band-aid to cover the source of the problem.
Any other suggestions, anyone?
