  .>My machine is a 486 with 4MB running DOS5, QEMM 6.1 and WINDOWS 3.1
.The main problem here is tht Windows does not like creating it's swap file
.in a STACKER'd drive - it MUST be in the ORIGINAL drive C: (are you swapping
.the drives after boot ??? If so, the swap file must be ing the NON-STACKER'
  .D drive).

FWIW, Jon is absolutely correct. The PERMANENT swap file cannot be a
STACKER'd disk. I have always setup my STACKER'd C: drive with plenty
of uncompressed space -- about 8 meg -- just for the permanent swap
file. For example, I have 4 partitions (on a total of 2 drives), all
swapped (SSWAP.COM), so C: becomes G:, with G: the uncompressed drive.
I have the basic root files on G:, along with 2 subdirectories, \STACKER
and \QEMM; I think it ends being about 600kbytes, or so. The rest is
all permanent swap file space. Then Autoexec.bat contains a statement
SET TEMP=g:\, and the appropriate similar statement exists in
SYSTEM.INI. Now, TEMPORARY swap files can be on a STACKER'd drive, but
with the SET command above, mine are also on the uncompressed area - just for
grins! :-)

Todd
