I just got an ATI 8514 Ultra and it is fantastic with windows. I have heard that their crystal fonts aren't yet available for win3.1. Does anyone have any info on if and when they may become available. Also, are the crystal fonts worthwhile as far as increasing the apparent resolution of the screen fonts vs. the loss of redraw speed? As I understand it, there is a converter available that will take a post- script font and make a crystal font from it. Does this procedure work effectively when using windows as a dtp platform? Thanks for any info on crystal fonts and/or the ati 8514 ultra in general. ttyl;paul -- ******************************************************************* paul@panix.com COMPULITE GRAPHICS brooklyn, ny, usa Design & Consultation *********************************************************************

However, they do look somewhat less BLACK; you may not like this. I can't see any difference in redraw speed on my 486/33. > As I understand it, there is a converter available that will take a post- >script font and make a crystal font from it. A Adobe-to-Crystal converter is supposed to be available on the ATI BBS 'Real Soon Now.' I do my dtp in WFW 2.0a, with Arial and Times New Roman as my standard fonts, and set my Postscript printer driver to substitute Helvetica and Times. I use Courier 18x11 in Crosstalk for Windows and find it pleasant. -- Harvey S. I may be incorrect in my understanding of how the crystal fonts work, but I get the impression that they do what Adobe Type Manager does-- create on the fly screen fonts from the vector font in memory (hd or ram). Whereas ATM reads the ps font directly, the special technology in the Crystal Font requires a specific crystal font on the hd. The converter would enable a postscript user to create crystal fonts for any and all the ps fonts and thus replace the atm screen fonts with the crystal fonts. They would be available for use in all Windows apps. -- ******************************************************************* paul@panix.com COMPULITE GRAPHICS brooklyn, ny, usa Design & Consultation *********************************************************************

Can someone with a modem download these and then upload to an anonymous ftp site like cica? I don't have a modem, and even if I did, it wouldn't work with our digital phone system. :( ============================================================================ | Tom Carter | carter@cemvax.cem.msu.edu | | Michigan State University | carter@msucem.bitnet | | Chemistry Department | | ============================================================================
