Desqview/X and SCO ODT 3.0

I am trying to get several PC's connected to the SCO system via TCP/IP
(ethernet) running X windows.

two problems have come up:

1. pc fonts are not defined on unix side (give warning msgs, color not defined)
Quarterdeck has bdftosnf instructions.. they say this is not really
important right now.. more "looks".

2. what is the proper command line?? we have tried:
rexec <SCO IP #> /usr/bin/X11/scoterm -display <pc IP #>:0
   " " xterm " "
   " " xdt3 " "

each has its assorted problems.. we can get the basic desktop, but if
we choose an application, it says "could not find sco term", or "cannot open
display".

has anyone used these two together before??

True enough. ScoBackground etc is unlikely to be found in most
standard Xserver packages. Of course, you could go into rgb.txt
and define them on each of your pc's and then recompile the rgb
data base to elliminate the problem....

First, you need a PATH=/usr/bin/X11:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/local/bin or
whatever in your rexec statement so that the environment of the remote
command knows where to look for applications. Without it the desktop
has no search path so it can't locate anything. Second, you need to
issue the xhost on the pc to allow access to the server from the
remote machine's clients. For example, if you want to spawn a
process on a machine name a.b.c.d you would issue the command
"xhost a.b.c.d" on the pc to allow access to the server. So, the
correct sequence on the pc is:

	xhost a.b.c.d
	rexec a.b.c.d PATH=/usr/bin/X11:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/local/bin xdt3 -display pc.ip.addr.quad:0

Of course, this assumes that the pc user (as set in the PC environment)
is authorized to use the services on the SCO box &:^)

It's a performance issue as well as "looks", but yeah it's no big deal. Move
the fonts over when you get a chance.

This just sounds like someone has tinkered your XDesktop file so that the
paths are messed up. Whoever administers the SCO should be able to help you
clean this up.

I'm using all three right now. They all work just fine. I haven't defined
all the sco* colors locally, so scoterm and xdt3 complain a bit as they come up.
I'm not going to lose any sleep over that though.
