Wow, I like this, lol! I can be greedy & selfish & start whatever topic I
want.

Ok - the thing that is causing me to rant today....

It's no secret that my job is not challenging. C'mon, if they kept me busy,
would I be here all day?!?! But, I don't want "surfing" to become an issue,
as other employees also like to go online when not busy. It DOES look bad to
have AOL or whatever up all day. So I've tried to find other things to occupy
my time here. One venue which I've explored is ebooks. I love to read, and
was thinking that it would look much better to be intently studying my computer
screen than to whip out a paperback.

So, I go to amazon.com (favoritest site in the world) and start perusing their
ebooks, and BAM - today's rant is born!

WHY are ebooks the same price as "real" books???? There is no printing, no
paper, no ink, no shipping. I had hoped that ebooks would be less expensive,
but noooooo. If the book just came out, and the hardcover edition is $27.99,
the ebook is the same price. What a freakin ripoff!!! I can understand paying
$7.99 for a thick paperback - I realize that there is a fair amount of expense
that the publisher has incurred for the printing, binding, shipping, etc. But
an EBOOK? Once it's set up in Adobe or whatever, it's DONE. You DOWNLOAD it.
Almost NO expense at all.

And numerous publishers are saying that ebooks just won't take off, no matter
how popular the author is. Gee, I wonder why. Perhaps because people who read
KNOW they are being screwed on ebooks??? On ebooks, publishers could take
their costs, a royalty for the author, put in a fat profit margin, and STILL
not charge nearly what the paper version sells for.

Can ANYONE explain this to me???? And if not, well, does anyone have a site
for cheap or free ebooks?!?!
