Following are the three lines which the sound card needs for functionality
in DOS after being configured by Windows on boot. You have these lines but
also have a few others. You might want to remove the extras. I have also
included a few other things you might try.
SET CTSYN=C:\WINDOWS
C:\PROGRA~1\CREATIVE\SBLIVE\DOSDRV\SBEINIT.COM
SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 P330 T6
where A = Base I/O range of the sound card
I = Interrupt Request
D = Low DMA channel
H = High DMA channel
P = MPU-401 MIDI I/O range
T6 = states SB16 compatibility, don't change
If it is still not working, try changing all of the hardware settings for
the card by doing the following steps:
1. Go to the Control Panel > System > Device Manager >Creative
Miscellaneous Devices .
2. Double click on SB16 Emulation device to go into its properties.
3. Go to the Resources Tab.
4. Uncheck the Use automatic settings box.
5 Change the Setting based on Basic configuration to 0001.
6. Highlight the Resource type and click on the Change Setting button.
7. You should be able to choose from these settings, * indicate default
settings:
Interrupt Request: 05*, 07, 09 (sometimes), and 10
Direct Memory Access (Low DMA): 00, 01*, and 03
Direct Memory Access (High DMA): 05*, 06, and 07
Input/Output Range (Audio I/O): 220*, 240, 260, and 280
Input/Output Range (MIDI I/O): 300 and 330*
Input/Output Range (Adlib I/O): 388* (can't change)
8. After making the changes, click on the OK button at the bottom.
9. Say YES to the Windows prompt about making a forced configuration of
your settings.
10. Restart the computer.
Try all the available settings if changing the settings the first time
doesn't make any difference in the problem.
Also, Try doing the following troubleshooting steps:
1. Go to the Control Panel > System > Device Manager > Creative
Miscellaneous Devices .
2. Double click on SB16 Emulation device to go into its properties.
3. Go to the Settings Tab.
4. Change the "Allow LPT Interrupt Sharing" option.
5. Click on OK and restart the computer.
Finally, For the Sound Blaster Live! to function in MS-DOS, the card
requires the use of NMI (Non-Maskable Interrupt) which is a component of the
motherboard. A select few motherboards due to their construction will not
allow for the use of NMIs. Please find out if your motherboard properly
supports NMIs and if so how to enable this feature. In some cases obtaining
an updated BIOS for the motherboard will allow the NMI support to be
properly enabled. If it does not, then the hardware on your system is the
limitation and there is nothing that can be done to allow the DOS emulation
to operate.
