24khz sound playback on SB16

I have an old Soundblaster 16 ISA Pnp. (Vibra Chip)
24 khz sounds play very noisily, whereas 48 khz play fine
does anybody have an idea what that could be?

I would be grateful for any advice or just the words: it's
impossible to listen to 24khz sounds on that old soundcard
