I bought a USB port, but I can't figure out where to plug it in. There were two types, one with two 5-pin USB plugs and the other with one plug of two rows, I forget how many pins, but more than 5. I bought the one with two sets of 5 pins because I had a spare connector like that on my motherboard. It turns out that it was the wrong one, however, because the computer won't power up when I plug the USB port in there. I also tried plugging it into a set of pins labeled com2, just for shits and giggles. Didn't work. I have a motherboard of unknown make. The CMOS setup has an option to disable/enable USB, and windows 98 detects both an Intel USB controler and a USB root hub. I have been told that this means my motherboard definatly has built in USB support, still however, no USB. Actually, Win 98 originally didn't detect USB, but when installing a scanner, the software said I had and should use USB, but it needed to be enabled, which the software did for me. Now Win98 detects USB even if I disable it in the bios. So, am I just blind, or does there have to be a set of pins to plug this thing into? Might the BIOS and Windows 98 say I have a USB controller when I really don't? TIA -- Adam
