THE USE OF EXPERIMENTS IN THE EVALUATION OF IT TOOLS AND METHODS
Many IT systems are finished and marketed when they function
correctly in their technology environment, i.e., when they execute
correctly. An equally important evaluation criterion is that the
system, method, and/or tool function well in the human user
environment. The seminar will present how user experiments with
eye-tracking equipment can be utilized in the evaluation of IT
systems, methods, and tools. Examples from experiments testing
programmer interpretation of program code and user interpretation
of graphic models will be given.
Martha E. Crosby is an associate professor in the department of
information and computer sciences and chair of the interdis-
ciplinary doctoral program in communications and information
sciences at the University of Hawaii. Her research interests
are in the area of human-computer interaction, models of user
cognition, and evaluation of human use of computer interfaces
and applications.
