Hi everyone, Our speaker for this week's presentation of the Colorado Advanced Technology Series (CATS) will be Peter Saint-Andre,Information Design Architect from Jabber Inc. Peter will be discussing "XML-Based Messaging with Jabber." Please see below for further info about the event. As last year, we will serve food following the presentation! Hope to see you all there. Thanks, Shana ************************************** ** Please join us! ** ** This Wednesday, September 19 ** ** 4:00pm-5:00pm ** ** ECCR 1B51 ** ** Refreshments to follow! ** ************************************** ABSTRACT The name may sound silly, but Jabber is a serious technology for XML-based, near-real-time messaging. In this session, we'll talk about Jabber's roots in the open-source community as an alternative to proprietary instant messaging (IM) systems such as ICQ. In addition to standard IM technologies such as multi-user conferencing, whiteboarding, voice over IP, and wireless communication, we will also discuss current applications of Jabber technology to problems as diverse as managing networks, improving workflows, and tunneling XML-RPC and SOAP calls through firewalls. Peter Saint-Andre is active both in commercial applications of Jabber technology through his work at Jabber, Inc. and in the Jabber open-source community as a leading member of the Jabber Software Foundation. http://www.cs.colorado.edu/department/events/cats/schedule/schedule.html#sai nt-andre Jabber is a local company that provides an open-source platform for "chat" or instant messaging systems. There are many applications of this technology, and in conversation with Saint-Andre, he's mentioned various eductional applications. About CATS The Colorado Advanced Technology Series wants to introduce students at the University of Colorado to the technology leaders of local and national industries and help the leaders of those companies explain what their companies do and why it's a great place to work. The main event of CATS is a series of technical talks in the middle of each semester. In each seminar, a technical or business leader from a local or national company describes new or existing technical developments, the motivation for developing that technology and the corporate environment.
