Abstract:
Intel co-founder Gordon Moore made a famous observation in 1965.
"Moore's
Law", as it is now referred to, predicted that the number of transistors
per
integrated circuit would double roughly every 18 months. He forecast
that
this trend would continue through 1975. The mission of Intel's
technology
development team is to continue to break down barriers to Moore's Law,
and
the result is that this law still holds true today.

In this talk, we will show evidence that suggests this trend can
continue at
least until the end of the decade. We will discuss the technical and
business challenges currently being faced, and will also reveal Intel's
strategies for introducing new technologies into production that allow
us to
produce chips with such increased processing power.

Biography:
Melissa Shell manages the EUV Lithography Research Group for Intel's
Component Research Division, which is based in Portland, Oregon. She
has
been an Intel employee for 14 years. Melissa received an MS in
Materials
Science and Engineering from Stanford University.
