The following is a message from NAGPS, describing some changes to
their Web site. In particular, it talks about the results of the recent
national conference, tax law information, student memberships, teaching
resources, and the Job Bank. Read below for details, or check them out
at http://www.nagps.org/NAGPS/.

Info Alert - Changes to NAGPS Web Site
1. Conference Legislation
2. Taxes
3. Security Software and Memberships
4. Teaching Resources
5. Automated Job Bank Passwords
Dear Friends of NAGPS;
There have been some modest changes to the NAGPS web site which deserve
your attention. Some of these changes answer basic questions people have
about NAGPS or about taxes. Others are resources we make available for
graduate students. Please take a moment to visit the site so you can
direct people who have questions. We are at http://www.nagps.org/NAGPS/
1. NAGPS Conference
The recent NAGPS conference saw lots of activity from our
members, particularly in the adoption of legislation. Of particular
interest to many recently has been our resolution on affirmative action.
You can review all the bills adopted by the members by using the "scroll"
bar on our main page to review "Legislation Adopted at the 1997 National
Conference." Direct questions to nagps@netcom.com or ombuds@netcom.com
(our Ombudsman, directed to ensure we comply with our resolutions).
2. Taxes
The recent tax law changes have many people confused about
implementation dates, new tax breaks and old tax breaks. We're
monitoring developments at a number of campuses with regard to tuition
taxes. However, all of our tax updates, including recent regulatory
activity, is available on our web page. Use the same scroll bar on the
main page to read about "Tax Benefits Saved." Feel free to refer
interested parties to this web site, and direct questions to
nagps@netcom.com, or to nagps-leg-team@nagps.org (our Legislative Team).
3. Student Memberships
We are very excited to announce that we are now able to accept
membership applications, with Visa or MasterCard payment, over the Web.
Our new security software is state-of-the-art and should make everyone
comfortable in using our web site to become a NAGPS member.
Link to the Membership pages from the left side Table of Contents
on our main web page and then to the appropriate page of interest.
Student memberships are just $22.50/year and include many benefits,
including access to all of our members-only web site (a benefit also
available to grad students on member campuses), a subscription to
NAGPS.ORG, our national news publication, a NAGPS Student Advantage
discount card (well worth the $22.50 itself), legislative updates,
leadership development opportunities, volunteer opportunities and more.
Please consider supporting NAGPS good work by joining. Questions
should be directed to nagps@netcom.com, or if you have questions about
our security software, contact secretary@nagps.org ( our webmaster, Tony
Rosati).
4. Teaching Resources
A not-well-publicized section of our web site is our "Teaching
Resources" section, located as a sublink from the Table of Contents
"Focus Issues" section on our main page. TAs should visit this site
frequently as a way to improve your teaching ability and to learn about
resources available out there for TAs. We need additional information
for this site, so please send info to nagps@netcom.com or ecc@nagps.org
(our Employment concerns coordinator).
5. Job Bank
Access to our Job Bank is now automated with our software able to
recognize graduate students from member campuses. To access our job Bank
(by far our most popular section of our web site), link to the Job Bank
from our main page and then follow the directions to secure a password.
#####
These are just a few changes to our web site. As always, we appreciate
feedback on our web site and ideas for future improvements.
Have a great rest of the week!
Kevin Boyer
