I'll second that!  There is ample precedent in the sanctioning of
variations in the institution of marriage.  It is completely natural,
proper, and in character for Americans to make moral judgements about
which relationships they wish to support and which they do not.  As a
society, we emphatically choose to not support bigamy nor marriage
involving a child (though some states get pretty damn close).
Choosing to not support gay marriages is no different.  BTW, for those
who take offense with my comparison of gay relationships to marriages
involving a child and say, in outrage, that pedophilia is a crime
should not forget that sodomy is still a crime in many states, as
well.  Just another example of culturally imposed moral judgements.
Just because it feels good to you doesn't mean that everyone else
should accept your behavior.

In traditional marriages, gay relationships, and these other banned
situations, all of the participants are willing participants, love
each other and want to be recognized as being in committed
relationships.  What's the difference?  The difference is that the
majority of Americans make value judgements about what is morally
acceptable to them and these other non-traditional marriages are not
acceptable because it cheapens the value, to them, of their own
traditional marriage.  IMHO.
