updating a 3640

I've seen more traffic on this list in the last few days than there's
previously been since I subscribed four years ago....

Anyway, as I mentioned in my previous posting, I've got a 3640 with
Genera 5.something. The printed documentation's even older. The 3640
has what appears to be an ESDI disk, an ethernet port, and the usual
console bits. I believe one of the spare systems has a QIC-style tape
drive, interface and functionality unknown. I'd really like to update
to the latest&greatest version of Genera, with a new SCSI disk and
a tape drive (say, an Exabyte 8200, since I've got several of them). What
are my realistic options, what would it cost me, and who all do I need
to contact?

Also, is it possible to extend the console cable to, say, 50 feet?
I've got a moderately well-appointed machine room, but it's not
exactly the most comfortable coding environment. Is there anything
special about the cable, other than the slightly-odd connectors?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
