Genera 8.3 works on a 3640.

3640 machines do not support SCSI AFAIK.

For repairs etc. you can reach Symbolics via "David K. Schmidt" <dkschmidt@compuserve.com> .

More. Atleast 200 feet should be possible.

I guess not. At the University here in Hamburg they made a very
long console cable for one of the scientist.

Advice? O.k., if you are really a fan, contact Symbolics
and get an Ivory (MacIvory 3, XL1200, XL1201, ...) machine.
If you a really really an enthusiast, buy an Alpha with
DEC Unix and get Open Genera from Symbolics.
The 3640 is drawing too much power - if you ask me.
And it is a lot slower than an Ivory-based machine -
but then - you can even run CL-HTTP on the 3640.

If you want to stay with your 3640, make sure you
have enough memory boards and be careful with
your console. There is also the 3645 which provides
a bit speedier processor. Also make backups from
your tapes - you should transfer the contents over the
network to some other machine.
