Often I'll want to start some time-intensive non-interactive task in a
listener and then switch to Zmacs while the task runs in the listener,
but the task in the listener usually stops running and waits until I
switch back to it before resuming. I've played with using :Set Process
Priority to remedy this but haven't been successful. If I set the
process priority of the listener to something really high then it
takes a little bit of time for the Select: task to run and get me to
another activity but once I'm in that activity then the listener just
waits until I switch back to it to run again.
Is there a way to make it more like running something in a Unix xterm,
where it keeps going pretty much no matter what else you do?
Is it waiting to type out? If so, you can allow unattended typeout by
typeing <function>5t. (You might also want to type <function>0 c-m to
turn of more processing in that window.)
If it isn't waiting for typeout, I don't know why it should be stopping.
(I leave things running in listeners for days sometimes.) You could
investigate why it stopped by selecting the Peek window and debuggering
the process...
Thanks,
Christopher
