a Unix or Sun solution that can do the following:
-poll the devices on your LAN or WAN,
-automatically compile the data into a relational database,
-and then use the historical data to prepare easy to interpret bar
charts and frequency curves which show "what's happening with the network
for specific time periods, such as the past month."  For example, you can
get a comparison of the type of daily traffic on specific T1s.  You can
find out which Ethernet sectors ae on a collision course.

This family of products is being used by network managers at some of
the country's largest corporations and universities.
