Question about Road bike tires

I recently bought some Michelin Cyclocross mud tires
hoping to install them on my road bike. they are
700x30 and i taught it would work but apparently it
hits the brake calipers on the top. Does anyone know
of a good brand of tires to get for a road bike that
has some good thread for going off road. My commute
now is the capital crescent trail and i would like to
bike the first section which is a crushed gravel road
with some better tires. I got a flat last time and was
late for work.

Any info would be appreciated
