Yep, that happens every time we get heavy rain here (the flooding, not
the ice!). The bed of the NCRR is sunken below the level of the verge in
many spots, and water does not drain off the trailbed quickly. The river
comes to within 10 feet (2-4 feet elevation) of the trail in many spots.
So any moderate rain causes some pretty huge puddles, and heavy rains can
leave 8+ inches of water on the trail in spots. I personally have never
seen the river to the level where it was over the trail surface.. I
wouldn't be able to get near the trail. I have been there after the
river had minor flooding, and the water still sitting on the trail was
almost impassable in spots (covered your feet/pedals on the downstroke).
