All- I've just moved into downtown Baltimore and since there's not a balt.biking newsgroup I thought I'd ask here. Is there anyone with experience riding around Baltimore City? I live near the Inner Harbor, and I am not afraid of city riding at all. However, I was wondering if anyone had experience with fun/interesting routes both within Baltimore and getting into and out of the city on bike on decent and safe roads. I have a philosophical problem with loading my bike into the car to go for a ride. It just doesn't seem right to me at all. Thanks for the help. Paul

When I use to live in the city I tried riding around in the parks (such as Patterson Park) but ran into too many problems. [Dogs, people, glass, debris] I changed & began riding at Lake Montebello (33rd & Lake Montebello Dr, by Memorial Stadium). At least here it's relatively clean & secluded from the "main drags". According to Paul Franceus <PaulMaxime@yahoo.com>: > I've just moved into downtown Baltimore and since there's not a balt.biking > newsgroup I thought I'd ask here. Is there anyone with experience riding > around Baltimore City? You can take Lombard west through SoWeBo to Gilmour, head south a few blocks and take Wilkins Ave out to Catonsville and head over to Patapsco State Park. If you've got a mountain bike there are some great trails there and they also have a paved trail system if you have a road bike. Another route out of the city would be to take Charles street north. Just past the train station hang a left. You'll need to consult a map because I don't know the turns and the road names, but you are basically taking a nice twisty road in the Jones Falls river valley. You can work your way all the way out to the county on some fairly nice roads. You will pass some areas where you might roll up your car windows, but everything should be safe during the daylight. If you are unsure, do the route in your car first. -p.

I used to do that when I lived in that area. Don K.
