We enjoyed going out to dinner at most once a week, and, while we were willing to spend a decent chunk of money (sometimes $150-$200), we sometimes were disappointed (once severely) in "recommendations" by New York magazines. We solved the problem by discovering the Zagat guides. There's one for DC as well as New York and several other major cities. These guides are based on surveys of a large population of people who dine out extremely frequently. The restaurants are rated by food, decor, service, are given a short description, a price for a typical dinner is given and the kind of a restaurant it is is identified. We found the guide to be an enormous help in choosing restaurants. If we hadn't broken up and I moved to DC, we'd still be working our way through the guide. The Zagat guides can be found in decent bookstores in the travel section. -- Chuck Divine
