I guess there has been a run of people eating in lately. . . Anyhow, a group of us went out for margaritas the other day and a number of things came up, that I thought I would ask for your input. We went to El Tamarindo in Tenleytown, and a couple thought that these were wonderful. I think I must be a margarita snob, since I much prefer those of Austin Grill or Rio Grande better. Anyhow, what is your vote for best margarita? Also, I know it can be difficult to get into Austin Grill. Does anyone know if they frown on using a table if everyone does not order dinner? I know that Cactus Cantina will have you move back to the bar if *everyone* doesn't get dinner. Any other South-of-the-border places require dinners with their tables (even though your bar bill will be larger than than the dinner bill?) Thanks for any input. Our happy hour crowd will be happy to research anything a reasonable distance from AU! Colleen McGlone Internet: MCGLONE@AMERICAN.EDU Bitnet: MCGLONE@AUVM

There iis also an Austin Grill in Old Town, Alexandria...on King St. I enjoy the Ritas at both places! I much prefer the frozen ones... but I had a pretty tasty on the rocks variety at the Hard Rock last nite....

There are two places that stand out for me when it comes to Margaritas. The first is La Lomita's on Penn Ave by the eastern Market Metro and the second is Jaimalita's at the Georgetowne Waterfront. If you order the Gold Margarita at Jaimalita's they pour an extra shot of Cuervo Gold into their standard rita for a sepcial treat. I think a combination of the rita and the atmosphere during happy hour in the summer make this the best rita in town! The margaritas at the Santa Fe Cafe on Wilson Blvd in Arlington (Rosslyn) are really good. They're a little different than most places & the food is good, too. It's a small, quiet place, though -- nothing like Austin Grill or Rio Grande. They only have table service and drinks at Happy Hour/dinner time (maybe beer during lunch, not sure).
