	Most good car alarms disable the ignition or the engine, so
car alarms do prevent someone from hot-wiring the car.  And given two
relatively nice cars, one with an alarm and one without, most thieves
will go after the car without the alarm.  Car alarms are also nice
when then the neighborhood kids play catch in the street...
