I want safer roads. Artificially low speed limits don't make roads safer. Claiming "speed kills" without having any scientific evidence to back up the claim that higher speed limits will result in more deaths is pure emotional argument that cannot be supported without bringing in irrelevant examples like children playing in yards. >I deal with traffic deaths on a >frequent basis and the people who cause them often exhibit attitudes >exactly like yours. And exactly what is my attitude, oh prescient one? Is it my attitude of never tailgating that is the problem? >>>Why don't you ask the good folks at NHTSA? Go for it. >> >>An accident investigator really couldn't tell me what I need to know. > >An accident investigator won't tell you what you want to hear. In >other words you can't meet the challenge. Game over. An accident investigator can tell me what factors were involved in an accident. He cannot tell me what traffic on that road does day in and day out. He can tell me till he's blue in the face about how dangerous high speeds are, yet less than 3% of total fatalities occur on the fastest roads that have "speed related" as a factor, despite the fact that the "speed related" figure is somewhat padded. The FARS information is collected based on the reports of accident investigators, right? What is the difference between asking them directly and looking at the information that they provide? -- Brandon "Spooooooooooonnnnn!"
