I don't really see what driving 600 miles with 4 other people has to do
with anything. The VW I refer to was easy to drive, easily carried 4
people, in fact had more room than a chevvy blazer my wife and I now
have.

There are lots of places you can go for long drives in England, it isn't
THAT small. Try driving from London to Glasgow. It is also much more
strenuous driving in England as the levels of traffic are much higher.
You won't see quiet patches on the M1 during the day like you'll get
even on I66 not far from Washington. City driving is of course hell as
usual.
