Well, that is very simple to answer. Of course road transportation would
be used for localised distribution of goods. Howeverm the point that was
made was that trucks cause an enormous amount of wear to the roadsystem,
look at how bad some of the interstates are, 66 and 81 have some bad
spots. Consider the amount of road works that springs up all the time,
most likely necessitated in the main by trucks.

Rail transportation, if it were improved in this country, could replace
trucks in the long haul of much cargo therby removing the burden for
road repairs, lessening the traffic and making it easier for other
motorists. Trucks too often hold up traffic by blocking both lanes of
the interstate and going slow. Rail as well as helping as I've mentioned
can also be much cheaper than road haulage.

That's the trouble with republicans, they don't understand about making
real transport infrastructure.
