These are good points. Something that drives me mad to no end is me
sitting in my angry and willing M3 behind 5 cars in a row that are
hogging and slowing down the left lane. I usually just sit back and
wait till it clears up. Suddenly there's Mario Andretti coming up
behind me at an alarming speed. So, I slow it and move to the right
so he doesn't drive his Camaro into my backside, blinding me the
whole way as he tailgates. He then proceeds to tailgate the car I
was following at a safe distance, and flashes his high
beams so they will get out of the way. This goes on for maybe 5-10
minutes until the traffic clears up anyways and he is allowed to pass.
What many drivers don't realize is that this act alone violates several
laws.
1) Using high beams within 500 feet of another vehicle
2) Following at an unsafe distance
3) Reckless driving
4) Speeding
TO name a few. I note this because these laws came about for a reason.
Barging down the road like an idiot is no way to get respect. Flashing
your brights at a car nearly directly in front of you is dangerous,
rude, annoying as all get out, and stupid.
You deserve to wait because you, sir, are an asshole, a speeder, and
an accident waiting to happen(if it already hasn't).
If I am in a hurry(and I have my share of hurriedness) I do not cruise
at 120 MPH and maintain it as I sneak up on the car in front of me.
I flash my lights long before I get there if I see the car is much slower
than I am and has plenty of room to move over, making sure I am not
blinding anyone in front of me. If they do not pull over, I pass them
in whichever lane is safe and they are a memory. If they stay in their
lane, I follow at a safe distance until they let me pass or I can pass
in another lane. If I am truly in a hurry, I'll flash my fog lights.
One thing I do notice is that my M3 tends to part the waters better
than my girl's Camry does. For some odd reason, a polite german sedan
with it's fog lights on waiting patiently behind you just makes you
want to pull over and let the nice man pass. NO one has yet to refuse
to let me pass; though I rarely flash my lights.
A couple of minutes off of the freeway is just not
worth risking your life and others.

This is sometimes due to the way people flash to pass.
90% of the time
:it has happened to me, I was passing a guy on a two lane road, some guy
: comes up at high velocities (usually 20-30 mph over the speed limit),
: gets about a foot, sometimes less, to the point where I can't even see
: his lights, flashes me, and I guess expects me to 1)turn into the
: concrete barrier on my left, 2)turn right into the guy I'm passing, or
: 3)floor it. You better believe I'm gonna bitch if people are going to
: drive like a**holes who think they own the road. If they're couteous
: >
: > Hey, I thought that when you overtake you floor-it anyway, if you don't
: > then you are obviously obstructing the guy behind you.
: Ummmmmmm, no. Don't have to floor it to pass someone. If I'm going 65
: and the guy I'm passing is going 55, then why do I have to floor it.
: Then if some idiot comes up at 80 and acts like an a**, I'm gonna be,
: let me put it nicely, a little annoyed.
