If I were a law enforcement officer, I might not have a problem with someone
asking me to do my job.  Hey, my life is an open webpage.

No difference in your responsibilities.  You have a sworn responsibility
to uphold the law in a fair and constitutional manner, don't you?

(And frankly, I don't see the difference you are referring to.  Whether
the money comes from investment interest, property taxes, income taxes,
plunder, sales taxes or whatever doesn't have much to do with your 
employment status as a peace officer and the additional responsibilities
and standards compared to the general populace.)

Well, that's silly, bots can and do easily harvest mailto: style addresses
from web pages.  You've simply made it harder for people to get your address 
who _aren't_ spamming, especially those using usenet with no browser access.
