To clarify some obfuscation made by our erstwhile candidate.... The following 4-year Universities are located south of Hildebrand, a street in San Antonio that is a demarcation of the affluent north side versus the not so affluent south side. St. Marys, which includes a Law School and a MBA program. Our Lady of the Lake University, which is a full fledged liberal arts college. Both of the above are run by Catholic orders. Trinity University calls itself the "Harvard of the Southwest", and it certainly looks the part of a well endowed, upper crust, pointy headed liberal arts univerity full of people that paint abstract paintings, debate national politics, and listen to classical music with their wine and cheese. Needless to say, getting in here takes Money. U.T.S.A. downtown campus. The main campus is under construction, and it is in the dead center of town (four blocks from city hall, five from the courthouse). The two buildings U.T.S.A. operates in downtown now are at Main and Cypress, and at the Institute of Texan Cultures. We're also thinking of using the Alamodome as a lecture hall :-). The University of Incarnate Word just this year upgraded to a four year institution. It is on Hildebrand, but north of it. The Alamo Community College district is a two year system with four campus at somewhere between 60,000 and 80,000 students. There are cooperative agreements between ACCD and the four year schools to hold classes that are assured transfers, so that the students don't have to retake classes. In any case, ACCD does a very good job as a two year college, such that it makes lots of sense to finish lower division requirements there before enrolling in the four year programs. The most available space for building a univerisity on the soutside would be a recently abandoned Air Force Base (Kelly or Brooks?). An unthinkable proposition, eh?
