I wouldn't recommend this for most people, but you can go into the /etc/passwd file and find the entry that begins with mourip... something like mourip:x:205:103:User Name:/home/mourip:/bin/ksh In this case you would want to replace 205 with 0. I think that it is a dangerous road to take. I fancy myself a fairly seasoned Unix hand, but I avoid being root whenever I can. For instance, I install all new software in /usr/local as myself (I change ownership of /usr/local to myself). If I _really_ need to be root (to change /etc/hosts, or something like that), I become root by typing 'su': it requires providing the root password, and drops you in a shell with root privileges. I quit this shell as soon as I am done. -- przemek klosowski (przemek@nist.gov) Reactor Division (bldg. 235), E111 National Institute of Standards and Technology Gaithersburg, MD 20899, USA (301) 975 6249
