I guess I am vaguely interested in whether digex is reliable. What I
have heard was not so favorable. Something like the machine which
they sell shell accounts for had its hard disk die, and it took a long
time (days?) to fix it. Maybe other problems--it is kind of a vague
recollection really, and in this business it seems like reliability
ranges from "OK" to "bad" (because the internet is growing so fast and
noone can keep up).

Actually uunet has been doing a lot better in the last few months.
For a while (around the spring or summer, don't remember exactly
when), it was not unusual to be hosed (bad routing, or some such
problem preventing one from getting to most of the internet) for hours
at a time, but I don't recall anything like that lately.

And uunet does, without fail, call me on the voice phone me whenever
the link goes down--in a setup like mine, I almost always know anyway,
but on general principles I like the idea that they are monitoring
everything.
