ok, this will probably seem lame, but, i _need_ to ask this question before
i burn any more spots into my monitor. right now, im trying to get the X
config file set up to work with my no-name monitor and my Video7 Mercury Lite
1MB VRAM PCI video card. i ran startx -probeonly so that i might get clock
speeds. i also noted that the Video7 card purportedly uses an S3 928 family
chip. i (foolishly) assumed that this meant i could use the S3 X-server. I
then used the ModeLine settings that i found in the doc/Monitor file for a
monitor with "similar" performance as my Daytek 1520 SVGA Monitor. i then
stated up X and all hell broke loose. once the dust settled, i had a nice
little half-inch line burned into the center of my screen. any way, this
monitor ultimately needs replaced, but in the interim, itd be nice to at
least get X running on it. so, if anyone is familiar with any of these
components and has gotten X working on them, id greatly appreciate some kind
of consultation. i can be reached at:

Home Phone: (703) 521-6036 [after 6pm is best]
Work Phone: (301) 215-6263 [prior to 4:30pm is safest]

any way, any help anyone can render would be greatly appreciated.
