I was given a fair word of advice from the Redhat folks. If you have
all of your user's directories off of /home, then you should make
/home on a different partition. It was at their workshop and lots was
going on; but it makes sense in two important ways:

1) If you go through a reinstall, the user's files won't get wiped
out. You will still have to re-add the users for purposes of the
passwd file (and shadow if you use it). But this is better than
having to backup all their files as well as the operating system
stuff.

2) If your users collect a lot of files, it will not choke the
primary operation system filesystem. Many operating systems do wierd
things when they cannot write to the filesystem when they want to. I
don't know how graceful Linux is in this matter. It is best to avoid
when possible.
