EDITOR'S NOTE: Jerry Sandusky, who was convicted yesterday of 45
counts of disgusting sexual sex crimes against young boys, is
currently
in the Centre County (Pa.) prison awaiting transfer
to either Sing Sing or Alcatraz.
<
With a small bribe to a janitor working overnight in the
prison, Rueters was able to convince Jerry to allow his very first
exclusive jailhouse interview.

ED CONRAD -- Good morning, Jer. I'd say you look rather spiffy in that
pinstripe suit. How does it fit?
<
JER: Actually, you'd think a tailor cut it to size. True, the cuffs
are a wee bit long but I'm told that will be taken care of later
today.
<
ED -- Jer, you must be devastated after spending your first night
behind bars.
<
JER -- Not really, Ed. It's not as bad a place as some
people say. True. the mattress was stiff as a board but, when I
complained, they said they'll be replacing it with a Sealy Posturpedic
by Monday or Tuesday.
<
ED -- Anyway, Jer, how did you sleep?
<
JER -- Didn't get much, Ed. Got to bed about 3 a.m. after watching
Godfather II on Home Box. It's one helluva movie. Thank God for the
good people of Centre County whose tax dollars pay for these things.
<
ED -- But, Jer, we all assumed you'd be absolutely devastated by being
in jail and knowing you'll surely spend the rest of your life in
prison.
<
JER -- Well, Ed, I agree there are some real disadvantages, like being
unable to share time with my young friends. And, as everyone knows,
I've had many.
<
ED -- Jer, we're running out of time. Have you seen even one Plus Sign
for the start of your end-of-your-life confinement?
<
JER -- It may mean nothing to you or your audience, Ed, but these
prison people are really decent folk. I was just told that the number
on my prison jersey will be 69.
<
That's the number I used to wear when I played for Rip Engle at Penn
State University many, many
years ago. It's a number that's closest to my heart.

Jerry Sandusky, fortunately, will have plenty of time to read . . .
