Well put! Finally a voice of reason. I tried to convince a bunch of texans a while
ago that if someone was in your house you wouldn't worry about what the law is going
to do when you shoot the asshole, but they insisted that in those brief seconds you
would take the time to ponder the role of 12 peers in the rest of their lives.
Only thing you said that I disagree with is this:

> I have only one or two things to say about hunters and gun collectors:

Hunting is recreation, it's also my main source for meat through the majority of the
year, if I'm lucky enough to come across a couple of good sized bucks. The NRA
fights for a lot of rights in the states, but has little respect in Canada. It's
organizations like Ducks Unlimited and (damn I forgot the name) the Ontario game one
that get more done. Consisting of mostly hunters, because if we don't protect the
game from the evils of man (being needlessly destroying habitats) we won't have much
to hunt, we get more support from the masses because at the same time that we're
thinking of hunting, we're protecting those poor little bunnies that get the enviros
all worked up.
While everyone talks of the constitution protecting their rights to bear arms in the
US because they're needed to protect themselves, the people in Canada that are
fighting to keep the right to own guns are the people who have guns in the home for
hunting; but guess what, if it'll drop a moose, it'll drop the moose carrying your
VCR and daughter out the front door quite effectively. Hmm, they have two uses
don't they.
The antis frequently use the phrase "guns have one purpose, to kill people". Get a
life, it's not true, that's one purpose, hell, that's probably why they were
invented, but they still have many uses on top of that. Without them, I'd still
have to slaughter my beef with a sledge hammer to the forehead, now that's barberic.
