>>Insignificant difference in arrival time For a 10 hour trip (from DC to Montreal, just to pull an example out of thin air), the difference in arrival time is 1-1/2 to 2 hours for 65 Mph vs 55 Mph. I wouldn't call that an insignificant difference. How many of you have had the experience of looking down at your speedometer and suddenly discovering that you are going 70 when it felt like you were just cruising along at 55? The old junker that I used to drive never had that problem, since it would start to shake and rattle above 60, but when driving a newer car, there is no physical cue that you are driving fast. You have to constantly look at the speedometer every few minutes to make sure your foot hasn't crept too far down on the pedal. Driving is stressful enough without having to watch the speedometer every minute for the entire trip. Thankfully my new car has cruise control, which relieves some of that burden, but cars are designed to run 65 to 70, and there is simply no good reason, other than adding revenue to the state treasury and GEICO, to force them to go slower. When I set my cruise control to 55 on the BW parkway, EVERY other car passes me and is thus breaking the law. If a cop wanted to, he could probably ticket me for obstructing the flow of traffic. Thus I conclude that there is no possible way to drive on the parkway without breaking one law or another.
